Insulating Tapes
Medium Voltage Heat Shrink/ Fusion tapes. HVBT heat-shrinkable tape is ideal for use on complex shapes and where busbars cannot be disconnected. HVBT tape shrinks 30% longitudinally and an adhesive layer flows and seals the layers of tape during installation. As with the other components in the system, the adhesive does not bond to metalwork, allowing easy removal for inspection and maintenance. Available in four widths from 25 mm to 100 mm. A spiral formed tape is also available for ease of use on overhead conductors. MVFT is a self-amalgamating tape providing insulation enhancement and protection against accidentally induced discharge. Quick and easy to install, upon application the tape amalgamates the overlapped layers together, producing a complete seal.

Heat Shrink Insulation Tubing
Heat-shrinkable busbar insulation tubing. Busbar heat-shrinkable tubing are suitable for use on long runs of rectangular or round busbars. The tubing shrinks down to 40% of their original diameter and, due to excellent flexibility, conform tightly to a wide range of sizes. BBIT/BPTM tubing can be slid easily into place, even around several bends and awkward shapes. The wall thickness is controlled by heat-shrink process. Available for over fifteen sizes of busbars from 5 mm to over 250 mm, BPTM/RBPM is suitable for applications up to 24 kV. BBIT is suitable for applications up to and over 36 kV.
- Insulation enhancement and protection against flashover and accidentally induced discharge
- Excellent flexibility enables installation on wide range of curved or bent busbars without cracking or creasing
Raychem Termination Kits: Ensuring Reliable and Safe Electrical Connections
In the world of electrical engineering, ensuring the reliability and safety of electrical connections is paramount. One of the key products that contribute to achieving this is the Raychem Termination Kit. These kits are widely used in industries where high-voltage cables need to be terminated with precision and safety, providing insulation and protection against environmental factors. Raychem, a leading brand under TE Connectivity, has been a pioneer in producing high-performance electrical insulation materials, and its termination kits are well-regarded for their durability, ease of installation, and safety features.
What are Raychem Termination Kits?
Raychem Termination Kits are a set of components used to terminate high-voltage power cables. These kits include various accessories like heat shrink tubing, stress control tubes, insulating tubes, and sealing components that help protect cable joints and terminations from environmental stress, mechanical wear, and electrical interference. The termination kits are designed to ensure that cables can carry high electrical loads without the risk of arcing, tracking, or insulation failure.
These kits are used in a range of applications including substations, power generation plants, industrial electrical installations, and utility networks, providing solutions for medium to high-voltage applications. Raychem’s termination kits are trusted globally because they meet rigorous safety and performance standards.
Components of Raychem Termination Kits
Heat Shrink Tubes: Heat shrinkable materials are a key feature in Raychem Termination Kits. These tubes are designed to fit around electrical components and, when exposed to heat, shrink tightly around the surface, creating a secure insulation layer. This heat shrink technology provides a high level of environmental protection, electrical insulation, and mechanical robustness.
Stress Control Tubes: High-voltage terminations require stress control to prevent electrical stress from building up in cable terminations. Raychem’s stress control tubes serve this function by evenly distributing electrical stresses that can build up at the cutback edge of the insulation, reducing the risk of failure.
Sealing and Insulation Materials: Effective sealing is critical to protect cables from moisture, dust, and other environmental contaminants. Raychem Termination Kits include specialized sealing components such as mastic strips and sealing sleeves that form a tight seal around the cable, ensuring long-term reliability even in harsh conditions.
Conductive Tubing and Insulating Sleeves: For high-voltage applications, conductive tubing and insulating sleeves help manage current flow and insulate the conductor from its surrounding environment. These components are essential for preventing accidental contact or grounding faults, which can result in costly downtime or accidents.
Lugs and Connectors: Cable lugs are essential for creating a safe and reliable connection between the power cable and the terminal equipment. Raychem’s termination kits often include compatible lugs and connectors that are designed to work with a wide range of cable sizes and types, ensuring versatility in installation.
Installation Accessories: Raychem kits come with installation accessories such as adhesive tapes, cleaning wipes, and grounding accessories that ensure proper preparation and secure installation of the cable terminations.
Benefits of Using Raychem Termination Kits
Ease of Installation: Raychem termination kits are designed with user-friendliness in mind. The heat-shrinkable components are easy to apply, requiring only a heat gun to install. This simplifies the installation process, reducing the need for extensive training or specialized tools.
Reliability and Longevity: One of the main reasons Raychem Termination Kits are widely used is their exceptional reliability and long-term performance. The materials used in the kits are resistant to UV rays, moisture, chemical corrosion, and extreme temperatures, making them suitable for both indoor and outdoor installations.
Enhanced Safety: Safety is a critical concern when dealing with high-voltage cables. Raychem’s termination kits are engineered to minimize the risk of electrical failures such as tracking, arcing, or partial discharges, which could lead to dangerous incidents. The use of stress control tubes and high-quality insulation materials significantly reduces the chance of electrical stress concentration at termination points.
Versatility in Application: Raychem Termination Kits are versatile and can be used in a wide range of environments. Whether in underground systems, exposed outdoor installations, or within industrial plants, these kits offer solutions for medium and high-voltage applications, from 11 kV up to 72.5 kV and beyond.
Compliance with Standards: All Raychem Termination Kits are tested and certified to meet international electrical safety standards. These include compliance with IEC, IEEE, and CENELEC standards, ensuring that they meet stringent quality and safety regulations.
Applications of Raychem Termination Kits
Raychem Termination Kits are used across multiple industries, particularly in sectors that demand high-voltage power systems. Common applications include:
Power Transmission and Distribution: Utilities rely on Raychem kits to terminate cables in substations and distribution networks, ensuring uninterrupted power supply and minimizing the risk of system failures.
Industrial Installations: Heavy industries such as mining, oil and gas, and manufacturing use Raychem kits to safeguard their high-voltage cables. These industries often operate in extreme environments where cables are exposed to harsh conditions, making Raychem’s robust solutions vital for continuous operations.
Renewable Energy: As the renewable energy sector grows, Raychem Termination Kits are increasingly being used in wind farms and solar power plants. These installations require durable cable terminations that can withstand exposure to the elements while ensuring efficient power transmission.
Infrastructure Projects: Raychem kits are often used in large infrastructure projects, such as metro systems, airports, and high-speed railways, where reliable power distribution is critical for safety and operations.
Conclusion
